In their first father/son collaboration, James and Rick Autry have released, Everyday Virtues: Classic Tales to Read with Kids (Smyth & Helwys), a collection of stories gleaned from the world's folk tale traditions. The book will be launched on Sunday, October 29 at Artisan Gallery 218 at a wine and cheese reception from 4 to 6 PM. Each author will read one story and sign copies of the book. The event is free and open to the public. Artisan Gallery 218 is located at 218 Fifth Street in West Des Moines (Valley Junction).
"This book is intended to give parents, grandparents, and other caregivers a valuable tool in luring kids, even for a short while, away from their digital obsessions," explained Rick. James added that he felt there was “nothing more important for kids than to hear a story read by a trusted adult.” Parents, grandparents, and caregivers will love sharing their time and these stories with children, ages 3 to 11.
The book is divided into six virtues--compassion, justice, respect, humility, freedom, and courage--with each section containing four stories. Each story is followed by a "virtue of the heart" that emphasize the tale's lesson, along with story notes to explain each story’s historical background.
Beaverdale Books will have books available for sale and signing.
